Processability and Physical Properties of Compatibilized Recycled HDPE/Rice Husk Biocomposites

The circular economy promotes plastic recycling, waste minimization, and sustainable materials. Hence, the use of agricultural recycled plastics is an eco-friendly economic outlook for developing eco-designed products. Moreover, new alternatives to reinforce polyolefins add value agroindustrial byproducts are emerging develop processable materials with reliable performance industrial applications. In this study, post-consumer high-density polyethylene (rHDPE) ground rice husk (RH) 20% w/w were blended in a torque rheometer or without following coupling agents: (i) maleic anhydride grafted polymer (MAEO) 5% w/w, (ii) neoalkoxy titanate (NAT) 1.5% (iii) ethylene–glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (EGMA) w/w. terms processability, addition RH decreased specific energy consumption experiments additives compared neat rHDPE. Furthermore, time reach thermal stability extrusion process was improved EGMA MAEO compatibilizers. Tensile impact test results showed that using agents enhanced properties composites. On other hand, analyzed through differential scanning calorimetry thermogravimetric analysis no significant variation all morphology tensile fracture surfaces observed via electron microscopy. show these composites feasible manufacturing products when appropriate compatibilizer used.
